Miranda Grunwell, community education coordinator of Disability Network Southwest Michigan, will talk about ableism and will share some of the work her agency does. As a Center for Independent Living (CIL), the Disability Network subscribes to a specific philosophy and set of beliefs. They include:
• Disability is best understood by people who experience it.
• Disability is a natural part of the human condition.
• Disability doesn’t exist until someone encounters a barrier.
